Do You Use Skype?

Skype is a service that gives you the opportunity to talk and connect with people all over the world via chat, video, or even calling.

Do you use Skype? If you do, tell me why you use it and/or why you like it?  If you do not use Skype, I am intrigued to what form of communication you use via the web.

I think of Skype as a great communication tool for people stuck to their computers and just seem to never get off. (like myself)

  • Skype is highly under-utilized in my opinion. Audio/video is a more effective and *faster* method of communication than simple text. Have you ever been chatting with someone over Twitter, MSN, etc. and wondered “I have a lot of information to convey – this would be so much easier if I didn’t have to type it all out?” Then use Skype. Why not talk to anyone you want (as long as they’ve got a mike input) just as you would over the phone. It’s easier, quicker and actually helps you connect much more effectively with people.

    • Skype certainly is very under-utilized and seems to always be the secondary source for communication, whereas it could really be the first source.

I was thinking the other day to what if I just used Skype to talk with everyone instead of Twitter. We would probably talk about more, connect more, and maybe even collaborate on a project.

  • Jordan is exactly right on this. One of my goals this year is to use it quite a bit. I am as guilty as many, setting up an account and using it hardly at all. That is about to change. :-)

We should follow-up on this and do more Skype-ing.

  • I use Skype on a daily basis. I like that I can choose to either chat, talk, or video conference all from the same application. Less logins, less applications running.

Skype is easy to use, and has a very clean and uncluttered user interface. Just my kind of program!!

    • Erica,

I do enjoy that Skype is universal but wish you could video chat with multiple people like TinyChat. But, Skype certainly does get the job done and I have found it to be the best way of connecting and networking with people.

      What does everyone else think?

  • I use skype everyday. Skype has given me the opportunity to engage in wonderful conversations, and network with tons of great people.

Skype by far beats all other IM platforms such as Aim, Gchat, Meebo. That’s my opinion, at least. I’ve been with Skype for over 3 years now and I truly do love it.

  • I looooove Skype! now I can talk to my sister… who is living in the Netherlands, and its almost like she is here :)

    • Skype really does give that sense of the person you are talking to is right in the room with you and I personally have built many new friendships with Skype because of all the potential it offers.
