Life as we know it is being focused more and more on gadgets.
As a college student, we see our friends or other students that have that latest gadget and want it in our hands.
The most popular gadgets are now transforming into essential gadgets. Even if these gadgets are popular they will be essential for college life in 2010.
I did a post awhile back that pointed out the 5 essential gadgets for a college student, but they were more of a general aspect and so here are gadgets that are essential for 2010.
1. Smart Phone
Smart phones are iPhones or Blackberry’s that allow us to communicate with all of our contacts, access our email whenever, and connect to the web whenever. More and more devices are taking advantage of the web and you almost feel out of the loop when you cannot access the web at anytime.
Besides smart phones offering complete contact and web management, they are being implemented with a quality camera, applications that allow you to be productive, and the ability to use it as your personal mp3 player.
Imagine only having one essential gadget in your pocket. We need to fully use our time and resources and a smart phone can do that.
2. Portable Computer
Recently, their have been a lot of talk, hype, negatives about Apple’s new iPad.
But, the whole purpose of the iPad is to allow for on-the-go functionality that is with ease, but still has potential of a portable computer. Surely, the iPad does not apply to everyone’s interests, but its general concept is important.
A portable computer. We are less and less at our dorm room desks and more and more wanting to be on our computer in the library, on the campus green, sitting in a nearby cafe, or in a lecture class. They tend to offer us distractions that we all face with these gadgets, so we have to make sure we are using them for the right reasons.
Keep in mind that this portable computer can be a laptop, netbook, an iPad, or even an ebook. It is essential that you have one to be able to access all sorts of information, of your needs, on-the-go in a educational/productive manner.
3. USB Drive
A going green initiative has certainly spread all over the United States and even through many other parts in the world.
The initiative calls for many of us to use less paper. This is where having a very portable storage device, like a USB drive, will be helpful to transport essential documents anywhere.
They would work great together with your portable computer that might just have some features as a smart phone, in terms of accessing the web any where.
Make sure you buy a cheap USB drive, if you don’t already have one. You will end up thanking yourself in the future, because they usually come into need of emergencies.
4. Noise Isolating Headphones
Our culture has always been heavily in love with music.
It calms us and allows us to focus and think hard. As there are more and more distractions that seem to come up and occur in college, isolate these distractions with noise isolating headphones or earphones.
Now, we can not hear what others are saying or doing and focus on what we need to get done in order to succeed.
5. Clocky Clock
The Clocky clock is an alarm clock that wakes up, rolls off your desk or anywhere you have it, and strives to annoy you and get you up out of bed.
It is known as the funniest clock ever, but it would be an essential gadget for us that do not either like to get up or seem to always turn off our alarm in our sleep.
We live in a world that revolves around using your time in the most productive manner. First, you have to make sure you are up and not wasting your time sleeping in. This annoying, but useful gadget will help solve it.

Great selection Derek.
Gadgets are here to stay – education needs to stop fighting their uses and embrace their ability to help us get things done.
Can’t live without my iPod Touch now!
Think about how much time students now are spending around their computers and their cell phones or iPod Touch.
I really wish textbook companies would work with Apple, Amazon, or Google to get them available for online usage.
I too have an iPod Touch where my on-the-go calendar is stored and to-do items are kept. It is my planner.
I was working with a group of 14 yr olds last year who came up with the idea of develop a tablet like device that each student would have. They would the receive a SD card with a digitised – interactive version of all of there text books on it.
Brilliant idea
Like the selection. Just RT it. Keep up the good work.
