Skype is a service that is known for people communicating with others all over the worlds. Oprah and CNN are just a few that use the service to bring you news from all over the place.
From people’s own homes to a place over the seas.
Even though Skype is very external in terms of functionality and usage, you can use it very well in an internal manner.
Skype can be used for communication amongst your co-workers and collaboration in and outside of work for business matters.
Do you use Skype for personal reasons or for business reasons?
With so many features Skype offers like video chat-rooms (similar to Tinychat), the ability to call someone all over the world, and just simple chatting with others like instant messaging, brings so many ways to further ‘your business’.
For example, you can use Skype for your business or the business you’re currently working at.
Your business
Imagine yourself always emailing, calling, and doing other tasks to keep you business going. You want to make sure your business, its customers, and any employees you have are happy and continue to act the way you want them.
Think of Skype as a portal to connect and remain in contact with all aspects to your business.
If you have started your own business and used Skype, how have you used it? I would use Skype to collaborate with my employees or partners to ensure the business stays successful and runs the way I want it along with any growth I predict or have the desire for.
Think about if you used Skype for your main source of communicating with everyone, which includes everyone related to your business along with friends and family.
Business you’re working at
Working for a business you do not have as much ‘power’ as owning your own business. So, you probably would use Skype to interact with your fellow coworkers and talk with any other friends and family.
Both sides
Technology can makes processes and tasks a lot easier and more streamlined, but it is always tough for implementation. I have found that people would like to really utilize it.
But, in both your own business and the business you work at you will face the tough time of incorporating yourself and everyone around you to use Skype. If you are only using it, there is no functionality.
The LifeNotion: Using Skype for business maters can streamline everything, in terms of communication and collaboration, but faces the problem of implementation.

I use Skype for a lot of my affairs. Design clients like the fact that they can get hold of me and hear an actual voice. It reassures them that their money is safe and encourages repeat customers.
More and more things are becoming completely text based. This is the reason why adding videos to your blog is an incredibly effective branding tool. It presents you as a real person who the viewer can associate with, and not just as a block of writing.
Skype sure does add a personal aspect to your business if it is not already there. But, you are right, you need brand yourself and not so much your business. People are much more willing to buy a product or service from a person they either knew or know from others telling them rather than a company name.
Skype certainly makes it easier to connect with your customers/ clients as if they are your friends and video chat is very helpful as opposed to texting. Plus much more effective.
Thanks for your comment James.
I actually use Skype more often for personal usage since my friends are mostly overseas (I’m located in Singapore) but I was working for this online community, somewhat like second life and that was the first time I used Skype for Business.
I think it’s a great tool because it’s more streamlined and it’s far more personal when you get to see the other person’s face while dealing with business-related issues. Security sake I believe. =)
Great blog by the way !
Ingrid,
Thanks for your comment and I would agree with you that Skype has that personal appeal. It sure is great to talk to people via video because you seem to get more done than and said better than if you were to just chat via text.
